Ever dreamed of a day dedicated only to write beautiful code – No deadlines, no worries? The coderetreat was our way of fulfilling this dream by being one of the facilitators for this annual global event.
Pair-programming teams solved Conway’s Game of Life problem. The aim was not to finish solving the problem but to do it as well as they could using Test Driven Development (TDD) and SOLID principles.
There were 4 hour-long sessions that included coding and retrospective at the end of the session. The teams changed each round after starting afresh each session. Each session’s purpose was different. After initially getting used to the problem in 1st session, teams moved on to define the data structures and polymorphism around the problem and finally writing refactored code with self-imposed restrictions such as No IF statements, No loops, etc. People were free to use any language of their choice to solve, all it really took was everyone’s passion to code beautifully!
Rahul Katariya, our Software Craftsman at Red Panda, was the presenter.
